Hot Wheels

If your baby's at that stage when he's captivated by anything with wheels (or even without, I recently caught Mr. Cheeks 'driving' a slice of cheese across his dinner tray), then check out this Baby's Race Car by Chicco. The award-winning toy is one of three Chicco activity vehicles including a fire engine and dump truck that are small enough for tiny hands to grip. Pushing the car activates a bouncing ball inside that creates reflections to help stimulate baby's visual coordination. And with its sleek curves and sharp colours it's cool enough to appeal to even older kids. Suitable for ages 6 to 24 months.

To dream of Cuski

If you’re dead set against dummies and don’t want your baby lugging a bulky blankie everywhere, you might like to try a Cuski. Hugely popular with UK parents since its launch more than six years ago, Cuski is a super-soft baby comforter that’s especially helpful soothing newborns to sleep (indeed Cuski is an anglicised Welsh term meaning ‘to sleep’). On the first night mum or dad should sleep with the Cuski so it absorbs your natural scent. In the morning, the Cuski should be passed on to your baby who will associate it with the comfort and security of having you nearby. Cuski is compact and made out of soft, durable fabric that lasts wash after wash and is available in several colours. Check out the Cuski web site for a list of international stockists.

Baby's first boxers

When Mr. Cheeks was barely out of his newborn diapers, one of his aunties bought him the most adorable (although admittedly rather impractical) underwear. This gorgeous t-shirt and boxer shorts combo is from Petit Bateau, the classic French boutique which has outlets worldwide. The set comes in chambray blue heather cotton with cute screen printed characters on the front of the t-shirt and the back of the shorts. C’est super mignon! Pick it up online at Snapdragons Baby or visit the Petit Bateau web site for a list of stores in cities like London, New York and Boston.

Happy Bunny

One of my favourite first outfits for our baby was a bandit-stripe playsuit emblazoned with the apt slogan Sleep Thief. Designed by London kids wear label, No Added Sugar (whose logo is a black bunny skull and cross bones), the sleepsuit is part of a range of icky-free items tailored for babies with attitude. For the winter season we’re partial to their cashmere sets including this black Bunny Love cardigan selected from purest Mongolian yarns with amber logo buttons and gold trim on the cuffs and hems. It’s part preppy, part edgy and all hype.

Organic dreams

The January sales are on but why bump pushchairs with the masses when you can find great discounts online at the click of a mouse? Leading French kidswear retailer Vertbaudet is offering up to 70% off on selected lines. If healthier living is one of your New Year's resolutions, you'll appreciate this Organic Baby Sleepsuit designed in hypoallergenic cotton and using natural dyes that don't irritate baby's sensitive skin. Available in a range of colours from sizes Tiny to 12 months, an added bonus is the labels are printed not stitched on so they don't scratch at the neckline. One step closer to baby getting a good night's sleep.
